   Korean definition: 일반적인 예상이나 기대와는 전혀 다르거나 반대가 되게.

   • 그는 잘못했는데도 오히려 나에게 화를 냈다.

     Even though he was in the wrong, he got angry at me instead.

   • 너무 잘하려고 애쓰다 보면 오히려 실패하기 쉽다.

     If you try too hard to do well, you're more likely to fail instead.

   Korean definition: 그럴 바에는 차라리.

   • 맛없는 음식을 먹을 바에야 오히려 안 먹는 게 낫다.

     Rather than eat bad food, it's better not to eat at all.

   • 그렇게 성의 없이 일을 하느니 오히려 하지 않는 것이 낫다.

     Rather than work so half-heartedly, it would be better not to do it at all.
